Sound Foundations

Music lessons can change a child’s life.

At Sound Foundations, we believe that high-quality music instruction and positive adult mentorship can be transformative. We offer free, one-on-one music lessons to all children, regardless of socio-economic status. Please note that our program is on hiatus for 2019-2020 school year. If you would like to be alerted when we reopen, please scroll down to sign up for our mailing list.

Sound Foundations is a non-profit community music school in Lynn, MA, founded in 2018 by a group of people who wished to increase access to music lessons in Lynn. Any eligible student can sign up for lessons, and all of our students receive a scholarship for tuition and materials. To keep taking lessons, students must practice and attend regularly. We also require parents and guardians to complete at least 5 hours of volunteer work in service of the organization each semester.

Audrey Gutfreund, the director and piano teacher, has been teaching piano for over 15 years to students aged 5-75. Playing the piano is one of her favorite things, and she loves to share it with others! Before starting Sound Foundations, Audrey directed the Kids in Community (KIC) program at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Lynn, where she helped found the KIC after school arts program. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Lawrence University, and a Master’s in Out of School Time Education from Lesley University.
